Bob Webster – Organics & More (Part 1 of 12)

Bob Webster, organic gardener, radio host for 16 years (AM 550 KTSA’s Garden Show) and owner of Shades of Green nursery gives a seminar on a variety of organic gardening related subjects. What a great seminar and I feel like a punk for having to leave early. The pavilion wasn’t super-packed like last week, but there was a healthy turn-out. In this seminar, Bob discusses the three kinds of organic fertilizer, compost, compost tea, DIY organic Round-up, and more. Highly informative seminar. Please forgive the camera work (the director needs to invest in a tripod) and lack of editing & titles, etc. I’m in the process of moving and don’t have time to clean it up. Thanks for watching! Comments welcomed.

Every gardener prays for the perfect loam and is usually lost when the soil is not, being either clay, sandy or rocky with both clay and sand. This series shows what the optimum soil looks like and how to mix that to achieve a soil that you know will grow anything you want and grow it well. Train

    URBAN FARMING NYC

UPDATE: This video was originally shot in August 2009. A student from The POINT’s ACTION program brought copies with him when he visited Michelle Obama’s organic garden at the White House later that month. A version of this video was then debuted at the SOUTH BRONX FOOD & FILM EXPO on December 5t,h 2009 at The POINT, and was also screened during the opening of the first ever Bronx Food Summit hosted by Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr on May 1st, 2010 at Hostos. The South Bronx Food & Film Expo featured groups from the South Bronx and beyond working on food access and food policy issues, and was also the Bronx premiere of the movies FRESH! and What’s On Your Plate? www.thepoint.org We are proud to announce that Thursday May 6, 2010 (10:30am) is the planting ceremony and press event for The POINT’s new garden, created in collaboration with Urban Farming at The Point Riverside Campus For Arts & The Environment. Regulating growth (pruning, trimming, thinning, harvesting)

Our plants have made tremendous progress in our backyard farm in Brooklyn. In addition to the rain, the garden now needs to get cut back in order to allow for better air circulation and make sure everything has proper access to sunlight. In this video, I go over… * HOW TO cut back dead leaves to stimulate new growth and improve air circulation * HOW TO prune your tomatoes for vigorous, but organized growth * HOW TO train beans up a pole * HOW TO cut back plants that are taking over sun space (zucchini) * HOW TO harvest basil * HOW TO thin (carrots, radishes) After less than a half hour of garden chores, I harvested some zucchini flowers that I later stuffed with a goat cheese mix of steamed collards, chives and oregano.
