Question by stellbell: Do I need to start with organic dirt to make an organic garden? Or do I just need to use organic fertilizer?
I got a topsy turvy for my boss and he is all about living organic, so my question is do I need to start with all organic soil or can I get the regular soil and use just organic fertilizer?

soil for the most part is organic, as long as it has not been hit with too much chemical fertilizers. once you have made sure your soil is up to par, mix in your organic fertilizer, after all there is nothing better than an organic tomato, and nothing worse than an inorganic tomato.

Organic Gardening Questions?
Question by What Will The Spill Kill?: Organic Gardening Questions?
I decided to go organic this year and I need a few tips. How do you keep the bugs off the plants. How can you fertilize them if it’s organic. Are there vegetables and fruits I can grow inside–if so, how do I pollinate them? Any advice would be nice.
Thank you in advance!!!

Answer by Dianne S
Insecticidal soap is the best organic solution for keeping bugs off of plants. Jerry Baker has many books on homemade organic insecticides as well.
You fertilize with compost or manure when you go organic. Manure is what most farmers use and what has been used for centuries.
You really don’t need to worry at all about polination. Although I’m not sure what you can really successfully grown indoors without a lot of sunlight or grow lights. Polination is more of a fruit tree concern and you won’t be growing those indoors!

What exactly is an organic garden?
Question by jane d: What exactly is an organic garden?
I have a small garden in my back yard. I have a compost pile that I use in the garden. I don’t use chemicals mostly because I don’t have much of a pest problem and the pests I do have are easily controlled without it. So does that make organic or is there something more?
Best answer:
Answer by Johnny
An organic garden means different things to different people. Mainly, an organic garden means growing plants without the use of synthetic fertilizers or non organic chemicals. If you only use compost or fertilizers such as fish meal, kelp meal, cottonseed meal etc and no chemicals, I would say you are growing organic plants. Other people may have different requirements such as how long has it been since the soil was farmed inorganically etc. Does it really matter what others think? Grow your plants in a manner that pleases you.

How to get rid of bugs in my organic garden?
Question by Amanda?: How to get rid of bugs in my organic garden?
I have planted fruits, vegetables, and herbs and everything is organic. It’s a new garden so everything is just settling in[approx. 3 weeks] and I’m already seeing bugs. I need some good kind of “remedy” to kill these bugs but of course it can’t have any chemicals.

Question by .: I want to start gardening as a hobby, but I have NO experience. Any books you recommend?
I’m 18 and I’m moving from SoCal to Hawaii in about 6 months and I’m interested in finding some hobbies. Organic gardening interests me, but I don’t know anything about it.
What are some good books to teach me the basics or at least get me started for now?
Or any advice?

Sethoxydim on organic garden?
Question by Joey: Sethoxydim on organic garden?
is sethoxydim an organic herbicide? It appears to have C-H bonds so this makes it organic? How to tell if it organic? The chemical symbol is C17H29NO3S. I want to make sure to use only organic chemicals on my garden. What about Malathion?
Best answer:
Answer by meanolmaw
Sethoxydim is a selective post-emergence herbicide… so NO on the organic garden….

Malathion?….
The pesticide has been shown in animal testing and from use experience to affect the central nervous system, immune system, adrenal glands, liver, and blood….. again, NOT for an organic garden…

Same as any garden. The only difference is you do not use chemicals to control weeds and insects. The time it takes depends on how large, type of soil and what you want to plant.
You need to include more details when you post a question
